“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
– William Butler Yeats
Hi! I’m Sarah, a tutor, mentor, and avid cat lover.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this wild, evolving journey of mine, it’s that every student has a spark inside them. They just need someone to help them ignite it.
Empowering Hours LLC wasn’t built in a boardroom with a business plan. It was born from years of listening, guiding, and growing alongside the students I’ve worked with. From curious middle schoolers to determined adult learners. My milestones? They didn’t come in the form of titles or degrees. They came from real wins. The kind where a student finally gets it; where tears turn into triumph; where someone who once doubted themselves walks away believing they can take on the world.

From AP Psych to Empowering Minds
I started my journey grounded in my love for AP Psychology — it was my first academic home, and it taught me how people think, feel, and learn. From there, I branched out into humanities, college-level social sciences, algebra, and even dabbled in pre-med. But no matter what subject I taught, the most powerful lessons came from my students.
Post-COVID, I noticed something that moved me. Students weren’t just behind on content, they were lost, anxious, and overwhelmed. The system hadn’t adapted, but I knew I could. That was the moment Empowering Hours LLC began to take root. Not just as a tutoring service, but as a mission.
The SAT, without Some Miracle Method
When I officially began SAT tutoring around July of last year, I started with nothing but encouragement and some very outdated books. There were no “magic tricks”, just a lot of learning, pattern-spotting, and patience. One of my proudest moments came when a student jumped to an incredible score nearing 1600. The breakthrough? Realizing he didn’t have to approach the SAT in a generic, standardized way. Once he began answering questions in a way that aligned with his thinking style, everything changed. For him, and honestly, for me too.
That experience shaped how I teach today. It’s not about shortcuts, it’s about truly understanding how you think, and then building a plan around you. No cookie-cutter strategies. No lecture dumps. Just real learning, personalized one-on-one.
One Hour at a Time
Today, Empowering Hours LLC proudly works with students from all over the U.S., but we keep it individualized. Never more than 10 students a month. Why? Because this work is personal. Each student I take on becomes a full priority; no group sessions, no pre-recorded crash courses– just you and me, working through your learning journey at a pace that respects your individuality.
And while the short-term goal is to help students crush the SAT, the long-term mission is bigger: to empower minds, not just grades. I want my students to walk away with self-awareness, confidence, and tools they can use far beyond their test date.
In fact, in the next two years, I hope to offer free tutoring to at least five students every month because quality education should not be a privilege. It should be a right.

Where We’re Headed?
This isn’t just about SAT scores. It’s about empowering students. One hour at a time. Because when you truly understand how you learn, no test, college application, or life challenge can hold you back.
Let us slow down. In a world full of noise, sometimes, all a student needs is a mentor who listens to them, makes space for their learning style and helps them unentangle the knots. This mentor-student bond is a precious one to me: one that reignites the spark that I believe was already in my student, just undiscovered.
